Stockholm, September 25, 2019 — Today Idun, a new software company, arrives on the smart building scene to make their mark with ProptechOS. Based on the open source semantic language RealEstateCore, ProptechOS is a Software-as-a-Service operating system that removes barriers to smart technology so that real estate owners can transform their portfolios into a platform for innovation, analysis, and optimization—and join the smart city of the future, faster.
“We have this vision where one smart building is asking for resources from another smart building, and communicating with other actors in a smart city,” says Erik Wallin, CEO of Idun Real Estate Solutions and Co-creator of ProptechOS and RealEstateCore. “To make this a reality, we need more buildings to join. And this is where having a common language is key.”
Idun was founded by the real estate company Vasakronan and the semantic machine learning company Klipsk AB, who share the conviction that the key to leveraging the full potential of smart buildings is giving property owners control over their own data. In 2017, together with a consortium that also included Akademiska Hus AB, Jönköping University, Rise AB, and Willhem AB, they developed the open source semantic language RealEstateCore which empowers property owners with access to their data, as well as a common language for their buildings.
The launch of Idun today represents the next step in the mission. Idun’s software ProptechOS makes it easier for real estate owners to independently leverage smart building benefits and gain access to an ecosystem of complementary services that helps them realize their vision.
Based on RealEstateCore, ProptechOS is a SaaS that building owners can use to optimize and manage their property operations, develop applications for tenant services, manage the digital representation of their portfolio, and manage on-site edge technology.
Using Idun’s platform, real estate owners can access a set of integrated applications that help them unlock a host of smart building benefits including greater sustainability, well-being, productivity, and better business. For instance, one application enables real estate owners to achieve a fully automatic LEED certification, which is facilitated in cooperation with ARC/LEED.
“We need these kinds of solutions to be able to get our buildings talking to each other and to create the kinds of smart solutions we want without being locked into someone else’s system,” says Peter Östman, Communication Director at Vasakronan. “Idun enables us to become part of the smart city of the future.”
