About dena
Deutsche Energie-Agentur, the German Energy Agency, is a leading institution driving energy efficiency and sustainability across Germany. With a mission to optimize energy use in buildings, dena collaborated with ProptechOS and ClimaCheck to enhance the efficiency of HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) systems for property owners.
Challenge
Dena was facing challenges related to the energy inefficiency of HVACR systems across various properties. These inefficiencies led to increased energy consumption, higher operational costs, and more frequent system failures due to excessive wear on compressors. The need to meet stringent EU Taxonomy and ESG reporting standards further amplified the urgency to find a reliable, scalable solution that could be implemented across different property sizes and climates.
Solution
ProptechOS in collaboration with ClimaCheck developed an Energy Performance platform specifically for dena. This platform integrates real-time data from building management systems, IoT devices, and other sources. It harmonizes and contextualizes this data, making it actionable for building owners, operators, and facility managers.
Key features of the platform include:
- Energy Performance Indicator (EnPi) Benchmarking: Allows for unbiased comparison of system efficiencies across different properties, regardless of size or climate.
- ClimaCheck’s Energy Optimization Method: Normalizes energy signatures to identify and implement low to non-investment optimization measures.
- Enhanced Operational Efficiency: Reduces compressor start/stop cycles, lowering wear and tear, reducing failures, and minimizing downtime.
Results
The implementation of the Energy Performance platform led to significant improvements in energy efficiency:
- 17% Energy Savings: achieved via targeted optimization measures.
- Operational Improvements: Compressor start/stop cycles were drastically reduced, leading to decreased system wear and fewer failures, ultimately minimizing downtime and maintenance costs.
- Rolled out to 13 German property owners, demonstrating its scalability and effectiveness across various properties.
